Boy Were We Crazy!?!

While we were in Ramah, New Mexico, we went to the national monument called El Morro. It is a big sandstone bluff about 300 feet high.

There is a little oasis tucked in at the bottom of the bluff which drew in travelers (as a place to rest) for hundreds of years.

There are many signatures and pictographs etched in the side of the rock including Cortez’s name. It was amazing how beautifully written some of the the names were etched in the stone. (My signiture looks awful and I use just a pen and pincile!)

There was a trail that took you clear up on top of the bluff. The path was incredible! It had beautifully carved stairs and an easy path that led a safe way to go. We later learned that it was Krisitie’s father and uncles who made the trail.

This picute makes me laugh. This was taken before our little trek. It reminds me of a picture of the Donner Party--We look so excited, and ready with our strollers. Little did we know what was comming! Although the path made for an easier, safer trek, it wasn’t necessarily intended for strollers or for a bunch of kids! (Who else is crazzy enough to take strollers on a hike up a mountain!) The kids thought it was great and wanted to run, not thinking about what would happen if they tripped or accidently bumped each other off the 300 ft drop! The parents were suddenly wishing they had more arms and fewer strollers! Even through all the excitement, it was a very worthwhile place to see. So if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood, be sure to check it out! (Just leave the strollers at home!)
